The PRESS Way

Thoughtful bodywork, built on skill.

PRESS Modern Massage has been independently owned and operated since 2008. Our goal is to be the best part of your day, every day.

Therapist quality

Every PRESS therapist completes 1,000+ hours of advanced training before their first session with you. We don’t hire generalists. We train specialists — and then keep training them.

Clinical intent

We assess before we treat. Your therapist will ask about your history, your patterns, where you’re holding tension and why. The session is built around your body, not a menu item.

Consistency over intensity. One deep tissue session won’t fix three months of accumulated tension. A regular practice will. We’ll tell you honestly how often you should be coming, and why.

Our origins

Established in 2008 by Rachel Beider, PRESS Modern Massage originally made an impression on New Yorkers as “Massage Williamsburg,” “Massage Greenpoint,” and “Massage Outpost” in DUMBO.

PRESS grew out of the desire to unify award-winning massage studios under one family name. We now offer massages in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Union Square, Columbus Circle, and Long Island City.

Why we do this

Rachel grew up with scoliosis and knows firsthand what it’s like to struggle with pain and search for relief. After becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist, Rachel worked for a surgeon who performed mastectomies for women with breast cancer, assisting recovery with massage.

She later worked for a physical therapy studio on injuries and preventative medicine. This fueled her desire to create a space for helping and healing through science-backed, clinical orthopedic massage.

PRESS Modern Massage continues to serve an ever-growing list of communities in New York.

1. Tell us what’s bothering you.

Where it’s tight, what you want to feel afterward, and how much pressure you like. No wrong answers.

2. Your therapist builds the session around you.

They check in on your problem areas and choose the focus and techniques, from Swedish to deep tissue, to match what your body needs that day.

3. Speak up anytime.

More pressure, less pressure, more time on your shoulders: just say so. Your therapist will adjust as you go.

Meet the Founder

Rachel Beider, LMT

Rachel Beider is the founder of PRESS Modern Massage, a New York State licensed massage therapist, and a member of the American Massage Therapy Association. She founded her first massage studio in Williamsburg in 2008 and has spent nearly two decades working in therapeutic massage, wellness, and client care.

Rachel’s approach to bodywork is both professional and personal. Growing up with scoliosis gave her firsthand experience with chronic pain and the search for effective relief. Early in her career, she supported women recovering from mastectomy procedures through massage and later worked in a physical therapy practice focused on injuries and preventative care.

Those experiences shaped the thoughtful, clinically informed approach that continues to guide PRESS today. Rachel writes about massage therapy, pain, recovery, pregnancy, stress, and wellness by combining her professional training with years of practical experience serving New Yorkers.

She is also the author of PRESS HERE! Massage for Beginners, an accessible guide to using massage techniques at home.
