Aligned Wellness: How Chiropractic and Massage Work Together

PRESS Modern Massage x Full Stride

At PRESS Modern Massage, we’ve always believed that wellness is most powerful when it’s connected. Healing isn’t one-size-fits-all — the body responds best when different practices come together, addressing not just symptoms, but the root causes of pain and tension.

That’s why we’re so excited to collaborate with Full Stride Spine & Sport Chiropractic, led by Dr. Steven, who now shares space with us at our Williamsburg location. Having both massage therapy and chiropractic care under one roof gives our community the opportunity to experience what we like to call aligned wellness — a seamless blend of soft tissue release and structural alignment.

The PRESS Perspective: Why Massage Matters

Massage therapy works by reducing muscle tension, improving circulation, and calming the nervous system. For many of our clients, it’s the first step in addressing pain that stems from stress, poor posture, or repetitive daily patterns (think sitting at a desk, carrying heavy bags, or endless hours on a laptop).

By loosening tight muscles and improving blood flow, massage creates the conditions for deeper healing — whether that’s recovery from injury, relief from chronic tension, or simply giving the body the chance to reset. Massage also helps the body hold onto the benefits of other treatments longer, making it a powerful complement to chiropractic care.

When Massage Meets Chiropractic

On its own, massage can relieve stress and restore balance. But when combined with chiropractic adjustments, the results go even further. Imagine a body where the muscles are relaxed, the joints are aligned, and the nervous system is free to function as it should — that’s where the real transformation happens.

Many of our clients come in seeking relief for neck and back pain, headaches, or tight shoulders. While massage therapy can soften the muscles contributing to these issues, chiropractic care goes deeper to address structural imbalances in the spine and joints. Together, the two approaches don’t just treat the discomfort — they support long-term recovery, resilience, and optimal function.

And that’s where Dr. Steven’s expertise comes in:

What we aim to accomplish at Full Stride is lasting changes. Muscle tension can come on for many different reasons. One of the reasons is if the joints around the muscles are not functioning properly. If you have a dysfunctional joint then the muscles surrounding it can tense up and have a cascade effect on the muscles in the area. If you find yourself constantly dealing with tight muscles that have to be repeatedly stretched and massaged then it may be a deeper joint issue. Using massage to calm the muscle down, then following that up with some joint mobilization and manipulation can loosen you up and get deeper to the route cause.
